Whole Earth No Caf Coffee: Better than Regular Coffee?

For millions of people around the world, starting the day with a freshly brewed cup of coffee is a morning ritual. The strong, dark, smoky aromas filling the kitchen or office are synonymous with waking up and feeling ready to go.

Whilst many people drink coffee for the buzz that the caffeine gives them, there are actually millions of people around the world that love the taste, but unfortunately coffee doesn’t agree with them.

Caffeinated coffee is actually relatively acidic, not to mention a nootropic substance that gets your brain firing and your stomach churning.

For some of us, drinking coffee is a real dilemma. It can be a real love-hate relationship for those that enjoy the smell and taste, but simply struggle to stomach that cup of joe

That’s why companies like Whole Earth have produced their Organic No Caf Coffee Alternative, which promises that great coffee taste, without the bittersweet consequences.

But, the question remains. Can a coffee alternative made from natural ingredients actually taste anywhere near as good as the real thing?

Well, let’s find out!

What is Whole Earth No Caf Coffee?

Whole Earth Organic No Caf Coffee alternative is a substitute for regular decaf coffee. However, rather than ground coffee beans, it uses ingredients like “Barley, Figs, and Chicory” to deliver that smoky, full-bodied flavor.

The idea behind it is to give coffee lovers a natural, tummy-friendly alternative to their favorite morning beverage, whilst also enjoying some of the benefits of a caffeine-free drink.

Although you may think decaf coffee has no caffeine at all, there is actually a trace amount in every cup. Whilst this is not an issue for the vast majority of people that are seeking a great cup of joe without the jitters, there are people with such extreme sensitivity to caffeine that even a trace amount can have a negative impact on their bodies.

This is why I wrote an article dedicated to how much caffeine is actually in decaf coffee.

With that being said, Whole Earth Organic No Caf Coffee Alternative offers a way around the caffeine problem, since it actually contains no ground coffee whatsoever!

It is made from 100% natural ingredients, meaning it can be enjoyed any time of day without impacting your sleep, giving you the jitters or upsetting your stomach.

If you are looking for more coffee that won’t upset your stomach or give you that dreaded acid reflux, there are actually some coffee types that are relatively low in acid, that may also be worth a try.

There are a number of healthy ingredients that have well-being benefits in their own right.

Malted Barley

Malted barley contains plenty of fiber and vitamin B6, which are great for digestion and lowering cholesterol.

Chicory

As per Lizzie Streit’s 2019 Healthline article “5 Emerging Benefits and Uses of Chicory Root Fiber”, consuming Chicory is a great prebiotic “meaning that it feeds the beneficial bacteria in your gut”.

What’s more, ground Chicory is great for digestion, can regulate blood sugar levels, and can even reduce hunger cravings.

Figs

As per this WebMD article from 2022, Figs contain “both calcium and potassium [that]… work together to improve bone density, which can, in turn, prevent conditions like osteoporosis.”

Rye

Another health-benefiting ingredient in Whole Earth Organic No Caf Coffee alternative is Rye. This grain is actually great at reducing your response to insulin, is a slow energy-releasing carbohydrate, and can reduce inflammation in the body (as per, “Health Benefits of Rye”: Oldways Whole Grains Council).

How Does Whole Earth No Caf Taste?

Now, this is the most important part of the article!

Does the Whole Earth No Caf Coffee alternative taste anything like the real thing?

Well, for experimentation purposes, I had my usual morning cup of coffee (a white single shot of americano) and soon after gave the Whole Earth No Caf a try.

To keep things consistent, I tried one cup with milk and one without. When I try a new cup of coffee I tend to prefer it in long black form, as sometimes espresso can be a little too overpowering to really appreciate and savor the tasting notes.

Whole Earth recommends “1 or 2” teaspoons of the No Caf blend per cup, so I went for 1.5.

To my surprise,  it tasted great!

It isn’t your traditional cup of espresso by any means, the flavor is more malty and nutty. But the No Caf is also quite a bit less bitter than a regular coffee, which is great for those that prefer a nice easy breakfast blend.

Another thing to note is that with 1.5 teaspoons of the powder, the drink is not particularly full-bodied. It is subtle and refreshing, but if you want a real depth of flavor, I’d recommend 2-3 teaspoons worth.

Without milk, it is quite palatable, easy to drink, and has a slightly tart aftertaste as you’d get with a regular instant coffee.

With milk, the maltiness and nutty flavors actually work even better. Whole Earth No Caf is quite reminiscent of a Horlicks-style bedtime drink, thanks to its comforting taste.

Again, if you are using this product as a replacement for your morning cup of coffee, you may want to up the serving to get a more robust flavor.

Should You Buy Whole Earth No Caf?

The big question is, should you buy Whole Earth No Caf Coffee alternative?

Well, if you are looking for a more stomach-friendly alternative than regular coffee, here are 7 of the best decaf organic coffees on the market today

However, if you want to reap the benefits of a coffee-free, wholly organic coffee substitute, Whole Earth No Caf is certainly a solid option.

There are a number of coffee alternatives on the market, but not actually that many that attempt to replicate that familiar coffee taste.

Whole Earth has been bold and gone after the real thing, rather than trying to be something completely different. This is an adventurous move and one that they have pulled off, sort of…

Whilst the No Caf Coffee alternative does taste good in its own right, it is not quite up to scratch when compared to some of the best instant coffees out there today.

It lacks the depth of flavor and smokiness that many high-end instant decafs possess. That’s not to say you can’t load up your cup with more of the No Caf blend and get it to taste stronger. But, when served as recommended by the manufacturer, it isn’t quite as punchy as I would like.

However, as a coffee alternative that can be enjoyed throughout the day or even later into the evening, it is a solid option to try.

Summary

Whilst Espresso Insiders is all about helping people find great-tasting coffee, we also recognize that straight-up espresso is not for everyone.

Some people might love the taste but simply can’t stomach a regular cup of joe, so an alternative like Whole Earth No Caf Coffee is a welcome sight.

Whilst it may not live up to some of the best decaf instant coffees out there, it certainly doesn’t taste bad at all. It has its own unique flavor that is nutty, malty, and comforting.

If you are looking for a coffee alternative that still resembles that dark, earthy flavor then the Whole Earth No Caf coffee alternative is well worth giving a go. Just remember to add a couple more spoonfuls to your cup!
